When Should My Pet Be Spayed or Neutered?
The ideal timing for surgery depends on your pet’s age, breed, size, and overall health. In general:
Cats
Cats are typically spayed or neutered between 4–6 months of age.
Large and giant-breed dogs
Large and giant-breed dogs may benefit from waiting until 12–18 months of age (sometimes even longer), as delayed surgery can support healthy joint development.
Small- and medium-breed dogs
Small- and medium-breed dogs are often ready between 5–7 months.
We’ll help you determine the best age based on your pet’s individual needs, and we’re happy to answer all your questions during a wellness exam or pre-surgical consult.

Why Spay or Neuter Your Pet?
Spaying and neutering offer lifelong benefits for both pets and their families. These procedures do far more than prevent a horde of kittens overtaking your barn or an unexpected litter (or two) of puppies from the canine stud next door. They also promote better health, a longer lifespan, and make behavior management easier.
